Summary:
Sundri Uttamchandani’s short story, Deh Thyo Pardeh (The homeland is now a foreign land), published in 1982, represents the socio-cultural identity of Sindhis in the background of partition and migration; the recall of the multicultural milieu in Sindh is interspersed with a deep desire to connect to one’s land and its people. The story also reflects a socio-literary shift amongst Sindhis, after the partition – the emergence of women as writers and artists. This paper seeks to engage in a critical reading of the story to explore these constructs of post-partition Sindhi identity. www.mutemelodist.com/postings.php?pid=569&cid=10&subid=37
